Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Day Proclamation

Thanksgiving is coming…

The Thanksgiving Holiday in the US is a week from Thursday. I suppose each of us, in one or more ways, has been affected by the pandemic, racial tensions, a downturn in the economy, a distrust of people in or seeking for power, and a distrust of the media that reports all of the above. In spite of such challenges, I believe we would benefit greatly to remember what Lincoln proclaimed in 1863 regarding Thanksgiving to God during the civil war. I think it applies to us in our day and with our challenges:

Lincoln’s Proclamation

[I] commend to [God’s] tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.
